Abstract

This study shows the influence of different faith streams embraced by lecturers
on the worship practices of students at the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Suska
Riau. The focus is on the difference between Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja)
and Salafi, which differ in understanding the source of Islamic teachings,
methods of worship, and the use of ijtihad. Students as recipients of knowledge
often experience confusion when they find differences of opinion between
lecturers whom they both respect. This research uses a qualitative approach
with phenomenological methods, using interviews with lecturers and students,
and observations on academic practices. The results of the study show that
these differences of views affect students in three main forms: first, confusion
in responding to the issue of khilafiah; second, the formation of exclusive
groups affiliated with the faith; and third, the emergence of critical awareness
and tolerant attitudes among students. The role of lecturers is very important
in bridging these differences through a dialogical and fair approach, so that the
diversity of beliefs does not become a trigger for conflict, but rather becomes a
means of learning and the formation of inclusive intellectual character. Thus,
the campus is expected to be a safe space for constructive differences, not a
space for polarization.
